The Jazzschool I've been affiliated with Susan Muscarella's Berkeley CA Jazzschool in one way or another as a student/teacher/administrator/practicer/rehearser since 2002. It's an amazing place.

John Adams - The Machine in the Garden "I discovered that inflection in intonation, especially as it’s done in the raga singing and instrumental playing in the Indian subcontinent, could embody immense emotional force. Years later, when I composed The Dharma at Big Sur, for the electric violinist, Tracy Silverman, I did so with the keen awareness that in non-Western music, the expressive power lies in between the notes, in the meaningful slides, glissandi and portamenti that are the norm in so many other cultures." SO TRUE, and something we trombonists should celebrate, rather than be ashamed of.
School For Improvisation SIM is a great school and resource for those interested in new improvisation-based music run by trumpeter Ralph Alessi. I attended during the NYC blackout of 2003. A memorable time. Jam sessions by candlelight with Ravi Coltrane, et al. Amazing.
